Founded 1881 as the Cincinnati Red Stockings, an independent professional team; aligned with the American Association (AA) 1882-89; joined the National League (NL) in 1890 as the Cincinnati Reds. Also played as the Cincinnati Redlegs (1953�1958).
AA champions in 1882; NL champions in 1919, 1939, 1940, 1961, 1970, 1972, 1975, 1976, and 1990. World Series winners in 1919, 1940, 1975, 1976, and 1990.
