Haley Joel OsmentBorn: 10-Apr-1988
Birthplace: Los Angeles, CA

Gender: Male
Race or Ethnicity: White
Occupation: Actor

Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Saw dead people in The Sixth Sense

Oscar-nominated at the age of eleven, Haley Joel Osment was far from a newcomer when he played the sad boy plagued with visions of ghosts in The Sixth Sense with Bruce Willis. His career began at the age of four, when he accompanied his father to an audition for a Pizza Hut commercial, and left with the role. The commercial was noticed by Robert Zemeckis, who sought out young Osment and put him in his first movie Forest Gump, where he played Tom Hanks's non-retarded son. His first leading role came at 8, in Bogus, where he played the orphaned son of a circus performer who is sent to live with Whoopi Goldberg, his no-nonsense aunt.

On TV, he played one of Ed Asner's grandchildren on the short-lived sitcom Thunder Alley, and he was the star's son on The Jeff Foxworthy Show, where Osment and Foxworthy himself were the only cast members not fired between the first and second seasons. On Murphy Brown, he was the third actor who played Candice Bergen's son -- the child that spawned Dan Quayle's famous moralizing in 1992. Osment was nine when he played the role in Murphy Brown's tenth season.

At eleven he starred in The Sixth Sense, leaving director M. Night Shyamalan near speechless when, for a scene requiring him to look disoriented, Osment enthusiastically banged his head against the wall several times before the cameras rolled. By all accounts, he takes his acting very seriously. His subsequent movies include the sweet but sappy Pay It Forward with Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt, the Spielberg-sized science fiction saga Artificial Intelligence: AI with Jude Law, and the sentimental Secondhand Lions with Michael Caine and Robert Duvall. The reviews have almost always been kind to Osment, and even in such stinkers as Bogus or The Country Bears with Christopher Walken, where Osment played Beary Barrington.

In July 2006, he was injured when he smashed his Saturn into a brick pillar. He broke a rib, bruised his shoulder, had some lacerations on his arm, and was charged with drunk driving and possession of marijuana. Osment was three years too young to legally drink in California, but his blood-alcohol level after the crash was .16 percent, double the legal limit.

Osment's younger sister, Emily Osment, played Hannah Montana's best friend on that Disney Channel sitcom. Their father was a stage actor who has appeared in several of his children's movies.
