Occupation: Actor

Executive summary: Europa Europa

When Julie Delpy was born, her parents (Albert Delpy and Marie Pillet) were hippie stage actors, performing in the avant-garde counterculture theaters of Paris. As she grew up, though, her parents both became prominent French film actors. Julie was thus sucked into acting early on, first appearing on stage at age five. She made her first movie at eight, appearing with her parents in Civil Wars in France. At 14, she worked for Jean-Luc Godard in Detective. Her first leading role came at 16, in Beatrice. After that, Delpy moved to New York City and majored in film at NYU.

Delpy is a very popular movie star in France. In America, though, she remains best known for two romantic dramas co-starring Ethan Hawke, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, and her biggest borderline hit, 1993's Three Musketeers. Delpy's other films include Godard's English-language King Lear, Europa Europa, Three Colors: White, Killing Zoe, and An American Werewolf in Paris. She also had a recurring role on ER in its eighth season, playing a French waitress Dr. Kovac fell for. In The Passion of Ayn Rand, Delpy played Barbara Branden, Rand's friend who "borrowed" her husband.
